Camille Malkiewicz, 23, went to JBU on a soccer scholarship and graduated in 2011. While there, she had to write a business plan for a class during her senior year.

That plan, aided by a couple of classmates, eventually won thousands of dollars at state and national competitions. After Malkiewicz graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications in June, that plan also became a business venture for Malkiewicz.

Launched last fall, Craftistas is a subscription-based enterprise. Subscribers receive a do-it-yourself craft kit every month for either $21 or $24. So far, projects have included a necklace, wreath and envelope clutch.

Malkiewicz said the business remains in beta phase, but she hopes to expand her client base as soon as she works out a few sourcing and fulfillment kinks. Craftistas got a favorable review from WIRED, and you can check it out for yourself at www.craftistaskits.com.
