Arkansas Housing Starts Rank No. 4 in Eighth District

In the third quarter of 2012, which ended Sept. 30, Arkansas was No. 4 out of seven regional states in housing permits.
The state was 13.7 percent behind the U.S. average in percent change, and was 4.6 percent below the regional mean.
Arkansas showed an 18 percent change for the third quarter of 2012, up markedly at 34.3 percent compared to 2011’s -16.3 percent.
The seven-state regional average was a 22.6 percent positive change.
Tennessee ranked No. 1 in the region with a positive increase of 43.4 percent for the third quarter of 2012, compared to a 25 percent decrease in the third quarter of 2011.
Overall, housing permits are trending upward in the region, with all seven states showing a positive percent change for the third quarter of 2012.
The U.S. Federal Reserve published the third-quarter data in the January issue of The Regional Economist, a quarterly banking magazine.
The area is a regional designation of the Eighth Federal Reserve District in St. Louis.
