The Arkansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has been chosen as the Outstanding Chapter of the Year by the national AAP in the “medium chapter” category.

The Outstanding Chapter Awards recognize chapters for excellence in programs that promote the health and welfare of children. The selection is based on both a written report that the chapter submits each year to the AAP on its achievements and an oral report made by the chapter president in front of a national committee of district vice chairpersons.

Among the accomplishments that factored into receiving the award, the Arkansas Chapter is currently in the process of implementing a $122,511 grant from Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas. The grant is funding the Chapter’s work with three pediatric practices across the state to improve the quality of care for children with asthma.

Other accomplishments highlighted by the selection committee were the chapter’s successes in advocating for children on issues like improving access to dental care for all children.

Additionally noted was the chapter’s focus on incorporating electronic and social media into member communication.
