More than 40 young professionals attended a University of Arkansas at Fort Smith workshop designed to help them move into leadership roles in their family businesses.

First National Bank sponsored the June 20 workshop at the Family Enterprise Center in the university’s College of Business.

FNB president Sam T. Sicard said in a news release from the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce that he was pleased with the workshop, and believed it met one of his definitions of leadership.

“Leadership is bringing people together and inspiring them to utilize their individual talents and abilities in a coordinated, unified fashion to accomplish a desired goal,” he said.

Seth Mohorn of Springdale, managing partner of Howard, Mohorn and Associates and a certified Dale Carnegie trainer, led the workshop.

Participants represented companies including FNB, Alert Alarms, Hanna Oil and Gas, Zero Mountain Inc., CSK Hotels, Weldon Williams and Lick, Preferred Office Products and The Richland Group, as well as six UAFS business students.

The Family Enterprise Center was established to help family businesses in the Fort Smith area grow and succeed by offering educational programs, supporting relationships between family businesses and service providers, and providing a forum that promotes family business in the community.
