Celtic Grill Closes Following Death

Restaurant options are abundant in Benton County, but the area lost one of its more unique eateries late last month.

In case you hadn’t heard, the Celtic Grill on Southeast 28th Street in Bentonville closed its doors. The restaurant, open since May 2005, was known for its traditional Irish favorites and time-honored — live on the weekends — Celtic music.

A sign on green paper posted inside the restaurant’s front door reports “The Celtic Grill is Closed for Business.”

And oddly, a hand-written note posted on the door’s exterior reads, “Go to IHOP to get checks!!!”

We don’t know the reason for certain, but the recent death of Charlie Nyborg, who ran the place primarily with some assistance from his wife, Glenda, was likely a contributing factor to the closing.

Nyborg, 58, died April 26. An announcement posted April 29 on the restaurant’s Facebook page read, in part, “The Celtic Grill has closed its doors and we will no longer be able to give you the great service and hospitality that we once so enjoyed. Please understand this was not an easy decision for us to make.”

As we understand it, the restaurant’s three-year lease with Charlton Development LLC of Bentonville is still in effect, but a resolution is expected shortly.
