How to Unfriend Facebook
Did you know Facebook stores your personal information?
Of course you did. Facebook stores the personal information of an estimated 150 million U.S. residents. You’ve probably also noticed it uses your information to tailor advertisements around what it believes are your interests.
Stephanie Campbell, a Rogers resident, noticed it too. Campbell is suing Facebook, using the 1986 Electronic Community Privacy Act as her basis, claiming Facebook’s ad-tailoring constitutes wiretapping. Specifically, she says Facebook is unlawfully using information while users aren’t logged in, and is intruding and unjustly enriching itself while doing so.
Campbell wants at least $100 per each day of wrongfully obtained data or $10,000 per violation.
Oh, and her suit represents every U.S. user of Facebook who doesn’t opt out. So, if the suit is approved as a class action, you’ll be suing Facebook, too.
