Fayetteville-based Lindsey Management Co., owned by developer Jim Lindsey, is poised to expand its thriving golf course operation with the acquisition of an established course in central Arkansas.

Lindsey has a contract pending on Longhills Golf Course in Benton.

The club’s golf professional, Jeff Hamm, and superintendent Bud Busken have owned the 170-acre course since 1981, but have sought a buyer since 2009. The course opened in 1955 with nine holes and expanded to 18 five years later.

Lindsey spokesman Hugh Jarratt said the company is putting together its development plans to submit to the City of Benton.

The course appraised earlier this year for $2.5 million. Terms of the Lindsey offer were not disclosed.

Plans include the construction of apartment buildings along the golf course, mainly along it’s front nine and main entrance.

The course will be closed for nine to 10 months once construction begins, which the company hopes to start next year, and ways to accommodate members during that time are being discussed.

Lindsey also owns Hurricane Golf & Country Club in nearby Bryant.

Longhills will remain an 18-hole course – with some redesign and upgrades.
