In its Sept. 5 issue, Fortune magazine presented its Dream Team of Major League Business, an interesting take based on the concept of fantasy baseball.

Nine starters were named, along with 14 bench players. One of those starters was none other than Susan Chambers, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s executive vice president, people division.

Fortune made Chambers its “Chief People Officer,” and offered the following scouting report:

“When a company employs 2.1 million people, as Wal-Mart does, human resources isn’t merely a support function, it is core. And so Chambers, 54, manages beyond health plans and training [though that’s a big part of what she does]; she’s essential to the company’s international expansion, which involves adding more than 1 million to its workforce.”
