Cold Collateral

When Yarnell’s Ice Cream Co. suddenly closed on June 30, all its workers were laid off immediately, meaning inventory that was still in the Searcy plant was left there.

A company spokeswoman told Whispers the remaining ice cream has been sold to Wal-Mart Stores Inc., but when and where it will be available to the public isn’t clear.

The inventory was collateral for Yarnell’s bank line of credit, so that’s where the proceeds of the sale will go, according to Gene Eagle of the Arkansas Development Finance Authority.
