The Walton Arts Center is bringing back the popular 10×10 Arts Series for its 2011-12 season.

The series brings 10 music, dance and theatrical performances to audiences for $10 per ticket – much less than typical WAC prices.

With attendance at fine arts events declining across the country, the series was created for the 2010-11 season to bring new faces to the WAC, according to a news release.

Jodi Beznoska, the center’s vice president of communications, said in the release that the strategy worked.

“We saw full and almost full houses for dance, classical music and jazz,” she said.

Last year, about 9,500 people attended the series, according to public relations manager Beth Goodwin.

The series, which starts Oct. 9, will feature such artists as the Emerson String Quartet, the Mark Morris Dance Company and the San Francisco Jazz Collective.

This year the WAC has added theatrical performances to the lineup, including the Aquila Theatre in “The Importance of Being Earnest.”
