Sumitra Reid understands why Crown Pub patrons are upset over its pending move.

Reid and her husband, Ryan, are taking over the space formerly occupied by Crown Pub — as well as the rooftop space previously home to Veranda Wine Bar — and incorporating it under the name Dickson Street Pub.

“I fell in love with it the minute I walked in,” Sumitra Reid said. “It just had a good feel about it.”

To that end, Reid doesn’t plan to change much inside Crown Pub, which is moving after failed lease negotiations. Reid is replacing some equipment and adding new tables and chairs.

As for the atmosphere, Reid hopes to keep it intact.

“There’s nothing for me to change,” she said .

DSP is scheduled for a May 5 grand opening and initially will offer a variety of draft and bottled beer, and some wines. A full bar will be added in July, following licensure.

A side door has been added to the bar space to ease access for servers who will take care of rooftop customers, and Reid plans to add a second bartender during high-traffic hours. The rooftop offers a direct, picture-perfect view of Old Main.

“That’s our edge,” Reid said.

Reid also plans to add a limited food menu. She said it likely will consist of hot dogs and personal pizzas, along with appetizer choices like a meat and cheese plate or warm Brie.

The rooftop space can be booked for events ranging from bridal showers to employee appreciation functions.
