Sen. Pryor’s Reversal on Supporting Obama

It appears Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor has had quite a turnabout on his support for President Obama since he enthusiastically spoke on his behalf in North Little Rock in 2008.

According to a report yesterday in The City Wire, Pryor says that he will not be very active in supporting Obama’s re-election this year.

“As much as I may love all of our presidents, … I just don’t really get involved in those races. My view is, Democrat, Republican, it doesn’t matter, my view is I’m in Washington to try to work with people,” Pryor was quoted as saying. He even said that if Romney were to win the White House it would be “totally secondary to me.”

But this was not Sen. Pryor’s tune only a few years ago when he spoke at a get out the vote rally in 2008 with other Arkansas Democratic leaders.

“Before we left (Washington) Hillary (Clinton) said ‘Mark if you can do me one favor while you are back in Arkansas during the campaign season. If you could tell every person you see to go out and work for and vote for Barack Obama.’ So can you do that?” asked Pryor to which the crowd chanted, “Yes, we can.”

“Barack Obama has the leadership; he has the vision; he has the hope that this country needs right now. Amen!” continued Pryor. “One of the things I learned from him back in Washington is that elections have consequences. 2000 election…2004 election…and guess what this one is going to have consequences too so let’s go out and work as hard as we possibly can for Barack Obama and let’s bring the change to America that we need.

I would say that is quite a turnaround.
