Best-selling Author Teaches Children Financial Principles

Most parents have said it: Money doesn’t grow on trees.
Now parents, and their children, can see the woman who turned that idea into a New York Times bestseller. Neale Godfrey, founder of the Children’s Financial Network, will present her “Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees” program at the University of Arkansas’ Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development on Feb. 19.
The program, hosted by the UA’s Bessie B. Moore Center for Economic Education, will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $20 per family, and also includes activities taught by local bankers, a copy of Godfrey’s book and lunch.
Moore Center director Rita Littrell said the program is ideally suited for children in elementary and middle school.
“The purpose of this workshop is to help parents and their children begin to understand the basics of money management,” Littrell said in a news release. “Ever wonder how to establish an allowance system? How much should a child save? How do you make good spending decisions? How much do you pay for chores? What items should your child be responsible for buying?
“This workshop will help answer these kinds of questions and more.”
