Merger, Expansion Highlight Moss Moves

Sheila Moss started Information Solutions in 1996 primarily as a document management business.

When a 2006 federal regulation was changed to allow I-9 forms – the paperwork used to verify an employee’s identity and to establish workers’ eligibility to accept employment in the United States – to be maintained digitally rather than on paper, Moss shifted gears. Specializing in I-9 training and compliance “probably doubled our client base,” she said.

“By 2008,” Moss added, “we were rocking.”

Now Moss is expanding again. By merging with Background Information Systems of Batesville, Information Solutions has enhanced its ability to handle pre-employment screening, criminal background checks, job and education verification, etc.

Moss also hired Beth McGehee about three months ago, when she decided to add what essentially is a human resources consulting arm to Information Solutions. McGehee’s concentration is helping small businesses that don’t have a human resources staff.

The idea is to help those businesses compose and implement everything from hiring procedures to drug and alcohol policies. Not having those kinds of plans in place can be costly, McGehee said, if problems arise.

McGehee’s hiring means Information Solutions now has a seven-person team, and that number could grow in the near future. That’s because Moss plans to add a payroll segment to Information Solutions’ offerings by the end of the year, and also is contemplating the addition of a full-service hiring center that would handle human-resource services for which many small businesses aren’t equipped.
