Upcoming Debates Highlight Primary Season
The Washington County Republican Committee hosted a pair of debates Saturday, April 17, at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Springdale.
Sixteen candidates took part in the proceedings. Eight candidates are vying to represent Third District Republicans. Just as many Arkansans are fighting to become their party’s nominee for U.S. Senate.
Jim Reavis, Chairman of the Washington County Republican Committee, said both debates are about “trying to find out who they are within the Republican Party. It is in their best interest to stand out from the pack.” Approximately 1,000 people were expected to attend.
Meanwhile, ABC-affiliated KHBS/KHOG-TV, Channels 40/29 in Fort Smith/Rogers, said its station will broadcast live coverage of a U.S. Senate debate from the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on April 23 at 7 p.m.
U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter and Little Rock businessman D.C. Morrison are scheduled to participate. The campaign is among the most highly anticipated primary races in the country. KATV’s Scott Inman will moderate.
The primary election is May 18.
