If a name that recently appeared on the front page of local newspapers seemed familiar to readers of this publication, it was for good reason.

Rick Hawes, an executive broker at Weichert Realtors The Griffin Company, turned himself in to Rogers police on April 9. Hawes is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

According to reports, Hawes started the church in 1997 and was its pastor. He resigned in August.

Hawes has been one of Northwest Arkansas’ most productive Realtors of late. After totaling residential sales volume of $15.74 million in 2007, Hawes jumped to No. 3 on the list in 2008 with $23.33 million in sales volume.

Hawes ranked 25th on the 2009 list, released last month, with $8.83 million in sales volume.

Released from the Benton County Jail on a $5,000 bond, Hawes has an arraignment set for 8:30 a.m. on May 17, before Circuit Judge Robin Green.
