Positive Trucking Trends Released

You might have noticed most of the folks we talked to for this issue’s economic forecast were guardedly optimistic at best. That was certainly the case with those in the trucking industry, a sector that’s seen more than its fair share of woes.

A little past that story’s deadline, though, we got a call from Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association Inc. Compared to the rest of the insiders we contacted, he was like the fat man in the red suit – jolly and ready to put smiles on faces.

Kidd’s positivity stemmed from his scanning of the Avondale Truckload Spot Market Index. The report, in a roasted chestnut shell, expressed the idea that demand will continue to slowly improve, the rate of capacity reductions will continue to ramp up in Q4, potentially spike in the first quarter, and continue into the second quarter, and that contract pricing will follow.

All of that bodes well for the health of truckload carriers.
