The EOA Children’s House began building its Springdale location on Dec. 11, hoping to construct the largest long-term treatment and therapy center designed specifically for abused and neglected children in the United States.

The construction of the new center will provide long-term treatment and therapy for abused infants, a service currently not offered anywhere in the region. With the expansion of the center, the EOA Children’s House will be able to care for 72 children, compared to the previous 22 it could accommodate. The center also plans to extend its services to all major cities in Northwest Arkansas.

The new center will be 24,000 SF and will feature seven classrooms, two infant treatment centers, a physical, occupational and speech therapy treatment center, counseling therapy offices, indoor play areas and tighter safety and security features.

The EOA Children’s House was created in 1978 when EOA Head Start staff discovered that abused and neglected pre-school children were better served in a closely monitored environment. The Children’s House strives to heal the psychological trauma of abuse in young children so the children grow older without dealing with the consequences of a developmentally damaging childhood.

The Children’s House hopes the children it serves will be able to attend and succeed in the public school system and grow to be a contributing member of society. It also works to ensure that when these children grow to be adults, they will not abuse their own children.
