Daylight Donuts Debuts New Store

Jerry and Una Dawdy celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in part by making dozens of donuts.

That no doubt will come as good news to fans of Daylight Donuts, which reopened in a new location recently after a layoff of almost eight months. The new store is located along North College Ave. in Fayetteville, sandwiched between Atlanta Bread Company and Comet Cleaners.

The move was precipitated when the Dawdy’s lease at their former Crossover location wasn’t renewed. After closing their doors on March 31, the Dawdys explored a nearby spot for the reopening before ultimately losing a zoning battle.

“By August, we decided we had to get another place,” Una Dawdy said.

Now they’re in a new 2,500-SF home, which has about 600 more SF than the former store. The new location has a drive-thru, too, located at the back of the building. Dawdy said as much as 30 percent of business at the old store came via the drive-thru.

Other than some hand-distributed fliers, news of the reopening has been almost strictly word-of-mouth, Dawdy said. One former customer, however, did make an announcement on her Facebook page after driving by and spotting the new store.

“We’ve had several of them come back,” Dawdy said of former customers. “We hope all of them will come back because we miss them.”

Dawdy also said she doesn’t anticipate any problems due to the proximity of Atlanta Bread.

“They’ve got pastries, but it’s not donut dough,” she said. “I think we both feel like we offer two different things.”
