Rick’s Makes Serious Dough(nuts)
As someone we know stood in the line that stretched out the doorway at Rick’s Bakery in Fayetteville on the morning of the Auburn-Arkansas football game, he wondered, “Just how many donuts are they going to sell here today, anyway?”
An e-mail submission later, we found the answer. Well, sort of.
“The unofficial count is somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000,” wrote Rick Boone, owner of said bakery. “We do not have the final number because we kept making and making, trying to keep up.
“It was a fun time. We love our Hog fans.”
It should be noted a couple of Tiger or War Eagle or whatever those fans from Auburn call themselves were spotted, too. At least we know they were treated to a good breakfast before taking in that 21-point whipping later in the day.
Regardless, if you figure Rick’s sold 5,500 donuts at the listed menu price of 53 cents each, that comes to a tidy $2,915 worth of sales. Throw in the cakes and pies and coffee and everything else sold that day, and only Bobby Petrino might have gone to bed happier than Boone.
On another note, we learned that Rick’s has become the first and only licensed Razorbacks bakery. Of course, that’ll also means giving up a piece of those profits to the good folks at the UA.
