The Northwest Arkansas Business Journal celebrated its 13th annual class of Forty Under 40 honorees at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers on Aug. 24

The sold-out event featured guest speaker Lee Scott, chairman of the executive committee of the board of directors of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and former chief executive officer.

Scott spoke about the economy and some of the cost-saving trends that have developed among Wal-Mart customers.

“While the financial crisis itself has stabilized, the economy is still facing serious challenges,” he said.

Gov. Mike Beebe also addressed the crowd, urging the honorees to take pride in being recognized as leaders and to encourage others to become leaders.

He presented Scott with an award for his commitment to leadership in sustainability. Under Scott’s leadership, Wal-Mart increased its use of renewable energy, reduced company waste and offered products that sustain global resources and the environment.

Beebe called Scott “truly a great leader.”
