Springdale Finds New Place for Poultry

Latco Inc. of Lincoln opened a new poultry supply store on U.S. Highway 412 East in Springdale in mid-July.

The store is in the same location as the former 4-State Poultry Supply store. Non-aficionados will recognize the spot as the place flanked by one-story tall statues — one of a chicken and one of a turkey.

The owner of 4-State (spelled with the number and not the letters) filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February.

Ronald K. Day, president of 4-State, listed $490,474 in assets and more than $2.79 million in total liabilities. Creditors included First Federal Bank, Liberty Bank of Arkansas and Legacy National Bank along with a list of suppliers.

All inventory and equipment of 4-State was turned over to Liberty Bank in January, the bankruptcy paperwork states.

Latco manufactures trusses and constructs poultry houses, but has a supply store division with 11 stores in six states.

One employee described the stores as “‘kind of like a Wal-Mart for a poultry grower.”’
