Eureka Springs’ Crescent Hotel Goes Green

It looks like there might be more competition in the Business Journal’s 2010 Greenest Office issue.

The 1886 Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs is joining the green movement. The hotel will begin distributing brochures to guests that outline its efforts to be good stewards of the environment.

The hotel says it is committed to saving 10 percent on energy costs and reducing paper consumption by 40 percent. They are replacing showerheads with energy efficient ones, replacing light bulbs with compact florescent bulbs and putting their air conditioning and heating units on timers.

Each department of the hotel will participate in a recycling program, Styrofoam cups have been banned and laundry will be done in staggered shifts to conserve energy.

In addition, the hotel is asking its guests to have linens and towels changed only if it’s necessary. Guests are encouraged to turn down the heat or air conditioning when leaving their rooms, turn off lights, reduce water usage and use the provided recycling bags.
