CPA Numbers Climb Despite Consolidation

There’s been subtraction going on at accounting firms in Northwest Arkansas for the last year.

Two firms on this year’s list of largest accounting firms have been renamed.

Frost PLLC of Fayetteville was formerly known as Moore Stephens Frost and HoganTaylor LLP was Tullius Taylor Sartain & Sartain LLP.

Last year, MSF, which is based in Little Rock, acquired Lynch & Howard, an 80-year old accounting firm based in Raleigh N.C., as well as Rick J. Tanneberger CPA, PA, based in Fayetteville.

MSF changed its name in December to simply Frost.

On Jan. 1, TTS&S, which is based in Tulsa, merged with Hogan & Slovacek of Oklahoma City and changed its name to HoganTaylor.

Also in January, BKD LLP announced it had opened a satellite office in Rogers by acquiring the practice of Mark Lundy, former partner of Lundy Allard & Co. PLC, and other staff.

Bart Allard now operates a practice with three CPAs in Rogers. All firms with fewer than four CPAs were intentionally excluded from this year’s list, which means that Ken Lance & Co. also was omitted due to a decrease in employed CPAs.

Despite fewer firms and consolidation, the number of CPAs at the area’s top firms increased to 89, up 20 percent from 2008.
