Christmas Decor Switches to LED Lights

Christmas Décor of Northwest Arkansas, a professional holiday decorating firm, is helping residents have a “green” Christmas by using more energy-efficient LED lights.

LED Christmas lights are similar to the traditional Christmas incandescent bulbs but do not have a filament inside, which causes the bulb to burn out and take the entire string of bulbs along with it.

The lights are illuminated by the movement of electrons in a semi-conductor material.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, if consumers replace their conventional holiday lights with eco-friendly LEDs, two billion kilowatt hours of electricity could be saved each month, enough energy to power 200,000 homes for one year.

Christmas Décor is going 100 percent LED with its Christmas lights in 2008, converting all of its returning customers from incandescent to LED.

Branch Manager Trent Ragar said the lights are also cool to the touch, which reduces the fire risk.

“Our LED lights not only save on your electric bill by being energy efficient, they look terrific,” he said.
