New Mercy Digs Top Sustainable Search

An independent panel of green ribbon judges determined that Mercy Health Systems of Rogers is the “Greenest Office” in Northwest Arkansas.

The five judges – all of whom work closely with environmental initiatives – noted Mercy’s thoughtful and consistent approach to land usage, interior environmental quality controls, commitment to recycling and its conversion to electronic patient records (away from paper records) as some of the best, most sustainable efforts practiced by companies in the area.
The Northwest Arkansas Business Journal accepted nominations from all-comers this spring, searching for the area’s top companies that practice sustainable efforts not only to decrease pollution but to also increase profits. Companies of all sizes from varied industries submitted information about their operations.
The judges rated each company on four metrics: natural resources and land usage, materials and conservation, employee behavior, and innovation. The top five companies were placed in appropriate categories (a company that occupies a building it commissioned, a company that is a tenant, a company with fewer than 50 employees, a company with more than 50 employees and an overall greenest company).
At a luncheon on June 9 to determine the winners, many of the judges commented on the high caliber and innovative nature of all the nominees. Some said that their faith in the environmental movement by businesses in Northwest Arkansas was elevated by the process.
It’s the hope of the publishers and editors of the Business Journal that executives who did not enter their companies in this green competition of sorts will read the Greenest Office profiles and think to themselves: That’s a good idea. We can do that.
Or better yet: We can top that.
