Bentonville Begins Terminal Rebuild
Don Peters Construction Inc. of Elm Springs submitted the winning bid for the construction of the new Bentonville Municipal Airport terminal.
The airport’s existing terminal was destroyed by a tornado in 2006 and with the help of state aid the city is in the process of rebuilding what was lost.
Bentonville mayor Bob McClaslin said the 2,415-SF terminal will be a “timeless structure” that will include a lounge, small meeting area, small training area and after-hours access for pilots.
“We want this to be a 30- to 40-year structure,” McClaslin said. “We believe this airport has a very positive future. We are trying to accommodate the general public with our new facility.”
Peters submitted a $396,000 bid for the job.
McClaslin said $300,000 of the project will be paid for with a grant from the state Aeronautics Board.
The remaining $96,000 will be paid for using proceeds from an insurance claim on the building.
