An area staple of New Orleans and Cajun cuisine will be expanding into Benton County later this summer. Café Rue Orleans will open a restaurant in Bentonville’s Metro Market.

The target opening date is Sept. 10, but that is contingent on how the build-out process goes. Henry Architecture of Bentonville is the firm handling the renovation of an existing 2,900-SF unit in the shopping center.

According to city HMR figures, Cafe Rue Orleans in Fayetteville brought in
$377,732 in 2006.

Owner Maudie Schmitt said Bentonville and Rogers customers have been asking for years for another restaurant farther north, but the idea had been on the back burner.

The new Café Rue will be a partnership with Paul Nelson, who was formerly general manager of Copeland’s of New Orleans restaurant in Rogers.

The restaurant will seat about 75 in the dining area and 25 at the bar. The menu will be the same as the Fayetteville location, but the booming business lunch crowds in Benton County might mean more emphasis on quick lunch options.
