Forsgren Paves Road to Success with Highway Awards

Forsgren Inc. of Fort Smith recently won the Top Statewide Quality Asphalt Paving Award for a multi-lane construction project on Arkansas Highway 255 and Arkansas Highway 71 Business.
The project, which was completed at night, stretched about three miles on a contract worth $1.2 million. The award was presented at the annual convention of the Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association. It was the fifth consecutive year Forsgren has been awarded for either a multi-lane or two-lane project.
“For our crews in the field, it’s kind of a pat on the back for them,” said Steve Forsgren, president of the company.
The panel of judges includes two retired engineers from the state highway department and an engineer from the federal highway department. Projects are graded on aspects such as material quality, smoothness, appearance and whether the job was completed on time.
Forsgren also handles residential and commercial developments.
It employs as many as 150 people in the summer.
Olaf Victor Forsgren, started the company in the early 1900s as Phoenix Cement & Sidewalk Co. In 1936, Forsgren Bros. Construction was founded.
