Washington County showed an 8.28 percent increase in the number of homes sold in January as compared to the same month last year, according to the Arkansas Realtors Association’s monthly report.
There were 170 homes sold in the county last month as compared to 157 sold in January 2006. Benton County saw a 19.96 percent decrease, with 261 homes sold this past January and 325 sold in January 2006.
“We’re building and selling houses left and right,” said Bill Lazenby, owner of Lazenby Real Estate Co. in Fayetteville. “It’s definitely picking up again.”
Another interesting statistic was that home prices were down in both counties. Benton County’s average price on homes sold dipped 5.85 percent, from $198,104 to $186,506. Washington County dropped 11.02 percent, from 192,434 to $171,235.
“Some of the bigger [homes] are dropping the prices,” Lazenby said.
Meanwhile, the number of homes sold in Sebastian County jumped 24.74 percent, from 97 sold in January 2006 to 121 sold this past January.
