Former Dixie CFO Charged in $100,000 Embezzlement Scheme
In our Aug. 14 Whispers, we mentioned that the Fayetteville Police Department blotter from July 28 had a caller from the Dixie Development and Management Co. report that an employee had embezzled more than $80,000.
A report was filed and led to the arrest of former Dixie CFO Emily Israel. Israel, the 25-year-old daughter-in-law of Dixie owner Ben Israel, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Sept. 19 and charged with theft of property.
Based on new evidence, the alleged embezzlement has exceeded $100,000. Emily Israel resigned about two weeks before her arrest. The accounting discrepancies weren’t discovered until after she left the company.
“It’s out of our hands now,” said Ben Israel. “We’re disappointed. It’s always a tragic situation when someone you put in a position of trust appears to have betrayed you.”
