Elkins, Katzfey Leaving KNWA
The co-anchor and chief meteorologist are both leaving KNWA.
Don Elkins, who has been co-anchor of the NBC affiliate’s evening newscasts since 2000, left on May 25 “to pursue other opportunities.”
Elkins said his contract actually expires on June 30, but his last day on the air was May 24. His biography was immediately removed from KNWA’s Web site.
Elkins previously worked for seven months as a radio business anchor for CBS Viacom in Chicago and for six years before that with Chicago Tribune broadcast media.
Rick Katzfey, who has been chief meteorologist for KNWA since 2003, plans to leave the station when his contract expires at the end of June. Katzfey said on May 30 that he hadn’t decided yet where he will be working after June.
Before going to work for KNWA, Katzfey was with WVLT, the CBS affiliate in Knoxville, Tenn.
Blake Russell, general manager at KNWA, said on May 25 that he had no announcement to make yet regarding a replacement for Elkins or Katzfey.
