The Springdale office of Technisource opened its doors to about 30 IT professionals on March 28 to discuss a variety of software options that help increase network efficiencies. Systems and network administrators from industries such as banking, food processing and the medical industries were represented.

Technisource, formerly IntelliMark, is a nationwide information technology integration, support and outsourcing provider.

The seminar covered three topics with demonstrations of each in different conference rooms. The demos included vendors VMWare (a server virtualization software provider), Network Appliance (data protection and storage) and SyncSort (provider of an express backup solution).

Overall, the companies demonstrated how an IT department can spend less money on hardware and software by creating a virtual server and implementing the latest backup technology.

Clair Finkenbinder, practice manager of network integration, offices out of Technisource’s Mechanicsburg, Penn., office.

He said a lot of organizations focus on what software or what servers to buy, but, “storage architecture is where your intellectual property is located.” In the event of a disaster, the ones and zeros that make up a company’s work can’t be bought, he said.

Finkenbinder’s presentation included stats from a 2004 Forrester Research study. The study claims that Fortune 1,000 companies using Network Appliance’s storage consolidations had a payback within 13 months, and experienced a return on investment between 136 percent and 149 percent after three years.
