Crossroads Junction Offers Great Cookies, Onion Rings (Business Lunch)
Crossroads Junction Café
400 A Robinson Road, Springdale
We were curious about Crossroads Junction after passing it a few times on U.S. Highway 412. The trained eye would almost miss the place.
Judging from the dining room with no more than six or seven tables, we’d say they do a pretty hefty take-out business.
We enjoyed the handmade wooden tabletops and the red Coca-Cola memorabilia that adorned the one-room joint. We even had plastic Coke cups to drink from.
One diner in our group tried the “Frito chili pie” ($4). She was craving it, and this place didn’t disappoint, she said.
The pie was a platter of shredded iceberg lettuce, spiced ground beef, cheddar cheese, onions and Fritos. All it needed was some sour cream, which the server brought out. She would have liked to have beans in her chili, but the salad was so good she didn’t care.
The other diner ordered the “catfish basket” ($5), which came with onion rings and hush puppies. The place was so small you could hear the fryer grease gurgling away at the fish combo in the back.
The onion rings were some of the best she’s had in a while, she said. The other diner stole one and said she could really taste the rich beer flavor in the batter.
A few of the hush puppies came to the table a little undercooked, however, the ones that were fully done were very tasty, she said. The fried catfish lacked flavor and could have used more seasoning in the batter.
Other selections besides a burger include a turkey bacon club sandwich ($4), chicken strips ($4) and corned beef on rye ($4).
For dessert, the two diners split a homemade chocolate chip cookie ($1), which was displayed at the register. It was by far one of the softest and tastiest restaurant cookies we’ve had in a while. We’d stop back by just for one of those.
