Arkansas-based Companies Miss Fortune?s List

Fortune magazine recently released its list of “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

Each year, Fortune commissions The Great Place to Work Institute of San Francisco to independently identify the top “100 Best Companies to Work for in America.” The ranking process included random and confidential surveys of company employees and a review of company philosophies, practices, compensation and benefits.

Notably — or not so notably — missing from the list are any Arkansas-based companies.

Acxiom Corp. of Little Rock has been on the list five times but not since 2003. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville slipped off the list in 2002.

Companies with homes close to Arkansas on this year’s list included A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. and Edward Jones, both of St. Louis, and FedEx Corp. of Memphis.
