The 47th annual Greater Fort Smith Association of Home Builders 2006 Home Show will be held Feb. 10-12 at the Fort Smith Convention Center. About 84 vendors and 160 exhibits are slated to cover 40,000 SF this year, said Dave Hughes, executive director of the Greater Fort Smith Association of Home Builders.

“The show is an opportunity for the public to tour every year and see what building products are available,” Hughes said. “This is a great kick-start every spring to the remodeling and construction season.”

Some of the exhibits will have home appliances, whirlpool tubs, pools and spas, light fixtures, ceiling fans, plumbing fixtures, cookware, sunrooms, and home building and remodeling ideas.

Last year, the home show drew about 6,000 people, a number Hughes said he expects again this year.

Vendors range from local one- to two-man shops to big companies like Whirlpool Corp., Hughes said.

This year there will be a 12,000-SF product demonstration display. Volunteer communities and local businesses constructed 11 64-SF playhouses that will be available for sale. Hughes said the playhouses were constructed to look like Victorian houses, banks and courthouses. Money raised from the sale will fund the Court Appointed Special Advocates program, which works with children in the legal system.

Hughes said he couldn’t say what kind of economical impact the home show had on the area, but said the long-term effect on area homebuilders is significant.
