Las Margaritas Offers Festive, Enjoyable Fare

Las Margaritas
2313 W. Sunset Ave. Springdale

We had heard good things about Las Margaritas in Springdale. But after eating there, we came to the conclusion that it’s pretty similar to other Mexican restaurants in Northwest Arkansas — perhaps slightly better than most.

It was crowded when we arrived on a Friday. The five people in our group were seated, then served salsa and chips, which were good but nothing special. We ordered white cheese dip ($2.85), which was a bit thin but promptly disappeared.

The lunch menu is fairly priced, with meals ranging from $3.29 to $6. Twenty-five different combination meals (one taco, two enchiladas, Mexican rice, for example) can be had for $5 each. (They’re a whopping $6 at dinnertime.) “Lunch specials,” which were similar to the combination meals, cost anywhere from $4 to $6.

One reviewer at our table had a chicken fajita taco salad ($6), complete with lettuce and cheese. The chicken was juicy, and the taco shell was crisp, she said. Although it was filling, the chicken was a bit bland, she added. Overall, she believed it was the same taco salad that she had eaten at many other Mexican restaurants, yet far better than Taco Bell.

One diner tried the lunch special No. 12, a chicken quesadilla with rice and beans ($5). He said the dish was just as good as any he’d had. There was plenty of savory cheese, and the shredded chicken inside was moist, cooked just right and mostly white meat, he said.

Though he’d try the place again, there was nothing that would draw him to Las Margaritas over another cantina, he said.

Another diner at our table had the huevos rancheros, or ranch style eggs ($4.29). He thought the meal was good, but the salsa was tongue-scorching hot, as far as temperature goes. At Las Margaritas, the huevos rancheros doesn’t have cheese on top, which is different from the way it’s served at most area restaurants.

The atmosphere was festive, and the service was good. The wait staff wore bright orange shirts, making it easy to spot them.
