Dan L. Worrell, dean of the College of Business and Administration at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, was named the new dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business on May 25.

He will take over the new post at the University of Arkansas on Aug. 22. His salary will be $250,000 per year.

Worrell will replace Doyle Z. Williams, who announced earlier this year that he would retire after 12 years as dean to return to teaching.

A search committee made up of faculty, staff, students and community and business leaders was appointed in December by Chancellor John A. White and Provost Bob Smith.

Established in 1869 as the states second teachers college, SIU at Carbondale has more than 21,000 students in the 175 academic programs annually.

SIUs business colleges offers masters degrees in two disciplines: accounting and business administration. The college also offers a doctoral degree in business and administration.

Worrell, 56, was named dean of SIUs business college in August of 1999.
