Forty Under 40: Christopher Milligan

Christopher Milligan has always had an interest in water and the environment. He has more than ten years of experience in civil and water engineering and has worked on a variety of water related projects, including a wastewater treatment plant in Alabama that won an American Society of Civil Engineers award.

Milligan went to work for Garver LLC in 2004. In 2011, he decided to open his own engineering and environmental consulting firm. BlueInGreen, a water treatment company, became one of his first clients. In 2012, he decided to join the BlueInGreen team full time as the director of engineering. He was soon promoted to Vice President. Milligan works to reduce power consumption and operating costs for the company’s water quality technology systems.

In addition to his work at BlueInGreen, Milligan co-founded AquaGro, Inc., a nonprofit aimed at developing a profitable model for farmers utilizing aquaponics, a combination of aquaculture and organic farming. Milligan said the organization is working with the University of Arkansas and Heifer International to support local food banks.

AquaGro is also teaming up with elementary schools to educate students about where their food comes from.
