Chantal Ingerson and Holly Allaire are co-owners of AzureScape, a residential landscape company.

Though they work toward a common goal, they come from very different backgrounds.

Allaire, a former aquatic biologist for the state of Florida, wanted a change of pace and was looking for an outlet for her creative side as well as her botany skills.

Ingerson, on the other hand, comes from the techie world of Austin, Texas with a background in computers, marketing and business. She drafts three-dimensional models for clients so they can envision the team’s work before ground is ever broken.

In deciding where to start their business, the pair researched and decided that Northwest Arkansas, with its huge potential, was the best option.

Ingerson said the company will grow exponentially in the next year.

“I see us tripling in size in terms of employees and revenue. I would like to be known as an innovative landscaping company, the company you go to for unique work and quality landscaping,” she said.

AzureScape has a crew of six and currently offices from 1,000-SF of space that it leases.

Inventory is not a problem, Ingerson said. Keeping plants and bushes in stock would limit the artists’ creativity, since they would have a tendency to lean toward using up the current stock. AzureScape’s method is to purchase only whatever is needed for a customer’s particular project, after assessing the customer’s needs.

Allaire and Ingerson’s focus will always be on water features, such as fountains and fish ponds.

“We are in the landscape business so we can afford to be in the waterscape business,” Ingerson said.
