Wal-Mart’s One-towel Rule at Headquarters

We hear that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has implemented a “one paper towel rule” for employees in the Bentonville home office. After they go to the bathroom and wash their hands, employees are encouraged to use only one paper towel to dry.

“I don’t think it’s really enforced,” said a Wal-Mart employee who answered the telephone in the company’s media relations department but didn’t give her name. “They ask people to help cut costs, and it does, but they don’t have people standing there to enforce it.”

We hear Wal-Mart also requires employees to empty their own trash cans at the end of the day.
