Times Lacking on Coverage of Former Editor?s Death (Outtakes Opinion)

We were surprised to see how the death of Floyd Carl was covered by the Fayetteville and Springdale-based newspapers.

Carl, who died on Feb. 28 at the age of 85, worked for the Northwest Arkansas Times, in its various incarnations, for 55 years. He retired as managing editor in 1982.

But the Times published only the family’s paid obituary on Carl — not once, but twice, on March 2 and March 3.

The Morning News, on the other hand, published a staff-written feature story about Carl on March 2 in addition to the paid obit.
