E.C. Price and Co. of Fort Smith has leased a 1,078-SF space in Fayetteville’s Northwest Arkansas Mall to open a Steak Escape franchise by Nov. 1. The space was previously occupied by an Arby’s restaurant, which closed June 30.

E.C. Price and Co. is operated by the Van Herpen family of Fort Smith: LeRoy, Elaine, Mark, Eric and Shelly Field. The company currently owns two Steak Escape franchises in malls — in Fort Smith and Texarkana, Texas.

“It’s a great mall, great traffic,” Mark Van Herpen said of the Fayetteville location. “We were fortunate that it opened, so we jumped on it.”

Founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1982, Steak Escape has restaurants in 28 states.
