Centerton Gets Tuscan Tower

Developer Neal Johnson of Springdale has just completed a 36-foot tower in Centerton that looks like it’s been there for 1,000 years. And, he wants it that way. The tower, which is about 14-foot-square, serves as an entrance to the 93-acre Tuscany subdivision and will be connected to a mile-long fence surrounding the development.

Johnson went to great lengths to get his aged look. He bought the salvage from five buildings in Charleston, S.C., and then hauled about 50,000 bricks back to Centerton for the subdivision that borders Arkansas Highway 72 and Main Street. It took 21 trucks a day and a half to haul those 60 loads.

He wouldn’t disclose how much he spent on the bricks, but said the “you have to see it to believe it” entrance will cost at least $750,000 to build.

There are 146 lots that are about 0.66 acres each and will sell from $90,000. Johnson said his company, Richland Construction Inc., will probably build several of the homes that will sell from $500,000.

Johnson is no stranger to subdivisions. He has developed Springdale’s Thornbury, Monticello, The Oaks, Greystone, and Windsor subdivisions and Sienna and Tamaron in Centerton.
