Clark McClinton, 91, a man who helped with some of the earliest paving of Northwest Arkansas roads and who played a big part in the 1954 decision to integrate the Fayetteville School District, died at his Fayetteville home July 10 after an illness.

McClinton was the former owner of McClinton-Anchor Construction Co. in Fayetteville. He sold the business 20 years ago to Ashland Oil. It is now known as APAC Arkansas McClinton-Anchor Division.

McClinton was a founding member of the Northwest Arkansas Council and the Fayetteville Community Foundation, which formed in July 2003. He formerly served as the chairman of the National Limestone Institute and the Arkansas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors.

He was a former chairman of the Washington County Democratic Party’s central committee and a founding member of the Arkansas Methodist Foundation.

H.D. McCarty, a longtime friend of McClinton, recalled McClinton’s community leadership during his memorial service July 13. He said McClinton could be very decisive and repeated one of his friend’s favorite sayings: “Let’s get on with it.”
