With $25,000 in initial startup costs and lots of experience in trade-show events, Ken Abernathy and David Higgins launched Red Ball Productions in February. Now they’re off and running, providing services for a wide variety of corporate events and conventions.
The company does everything from trade-show displays to curtains, tablecloths and tents for corporate events, Abernathy said.
Abernathy believes Red Ball will get a return on its startup costs by the end of the first year of operations.
The firm has been outsourcing its design work and leasing warehouse space, but all that will change in coming months, Abernathy said. Red Ball is looking for a professional designer with trade-show experience to join the company fulltime. The duo is also planning to hire at least two more employees for support staff and to get their own warehouse space and office.
Abernathy said he loves the convention and corporate event business. He started out as a theater major in college and particularly enjoyed the design of stage sets. That led to work in the trade-show industry, and he worked his way up from there. His partner, David Higgins, also started out providing services for trade-show customers.
One thing that sets Red Ball apart from other service providers, Abernathy said, is that the company stays on top of what is cutting edge in the industry so that it can provide diverse options for its clients.
