Jesse Smyers is working hard to build a reputation for quality modern furniture and make his new furniture store a success. The store is open seven days a week and he’s there every hour it’s open.

Lacuna Modern Interiors has 3,000 SF of mostly showroom space that is filled with bedroom, dining room and living room furniture in classic modern style. The couches and other pieces on display can be ordered in a variety of fabrics, with custom legs and other hardware chosen by the buyer.

Smyers said his reproduction pieces from the mid-century have been very popular. Lacuna Modern Interiors offers a variety of furniture brands. Smyers prefers to pick individual pieces that he particularly likes and hopes his customers will also like, rather than purchasing a full line of furniture from one company.

In addition to furniture, Lacuna Modern Interiors offers artwork, rugs and other home accessories, all with a modern flare.

Smyers declined to say how much his startup costs were, but said he’ll have the business loan paid off in six years and he hopes to be making a profit in the store within the first year of operations.
