May Construction Co. of Fayetteville has been awarded the bid to build a new 11,000-SF building in Lowell for J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. The four-story building will be located adjacent to the existing corporate tower near I-540. The expected cost is $12.5 million.

Construction will also include the addition of 826 parking spaces. Miller Boskus Lack Architects P.A. of Springdale landed the architectural work for the project. The building plans received final approval from the Lowell Planning Commission on May 17.

J.B. Hunt Transport officials said they hope to break ground on the project within the next 30 days. Construction is pending on word from the Arkansas Department of Economic Development regarding a request by the company that the effort be included in the state’s “tax back” incentive program.

If approved, J.B. Hunt Transport would be able to get its sales tax refunded back from the state.
