Poetry Good for General Assembly (Opinion)
Members of the Arkansas General Assembly should take heed in the lighthearted retelling of the “Night Before Christmas” that ran in Brenda Blagg’s column in The Morning News on Christmas Eve. Blagg did a great job with the old holiday standard, converting it to a “shame on you” piece for state legislators arguing about school consolidation and its effect on football team turf, rather than swift reform to improve the education provided the state’s young people. Listen up, lawmakers —
“It’s time for you lawmakers to find some consensus,
To break through the logjam that tends to prevent us
From giving our children the chance to excel
And lift up our state from its ’50th’ hell.”
