We arrived at the Crumpet Tea Room in downtown Rogers on a Friday at the height of lunch hour and were greeted and seated promptly in one of the many upstairs rooms. A few minutes later, our amicable server plopped herself right down at the table with us and took our order.r

A sea of sea-green décor and knickknacks made us feel like we should order a cup of tea and take a long relaxing lunch at grandma’s house. The wallpaper varies from room to room. The tablecloths are different at every table, and the cloth napkins are different at each place setting. Local artwork and antiques pull the eclectic look together.r

There were no appetizer selections, so we got right down to the meal. One diner ordered the beef stroganoff crepe that came with a cup of soup and a dinner salad ($6.25). The soup, cream of broccoli, arrived quickly before the meal and perhaps could have used a little more green and a little less cream to suit this diner’s taste.r

The stroganoff came with a surprisingly large amount of ground beef stuffed inside a crepe that was topped with sour cream and cheddar cheese. Though a little heavy for a luncher trying to fight the afternoon snooze, it was delicious. The ranch dressing on the salad was a too sweet, so the waitress kindly suggested a peppercorn parmesan variety and brought a replacement salad to our table faster than you can say “Miracle Whip”.r

Our other diner ordered the chicken salad sandwich and soup combo ($5.25) and an Orange Roll (85 cents) — the Tea Room’s specialty. The Crumpet Tea Room’s chicken salad is a favorite of this diner, and she admits to rarely ordering anything else. The bowl of cream of broccoli soup that she enjoyed seemed to have more broccoli than the other diner’s cup of the soup. This diner thought the soup was wonderful and would have tipped up the bowl for the last few drops but knew some would likely end up on her shirt.r

Our two diners were female and had no trouble agreeing on the Crumpet Tea Room for lunch. Word is that some macho male lunchers have yet to try the Tea Room’s wonderful menu selections. Our diners noted that a heartier male appetite might enjoy the heavy beef stroganoff or its counterpart, the beef stroganoff potato ($6), which comes with an orange roll and can be ordered jumbo-size for 55 cents more.r

All in all, the Crumpet Tea Room is a great place for lunch. There’s plenty of seating, and the menu isn’t full of the froufrou delicacies one might expect for a tea room. There’s also plenty of space and privacy for group events.r
